Porch Fire
Porch Fire
Porch Fire is a bluegrass jam fusion band that is based out of Carbondale, Illinois. The band was formed in the summer of 2015 by guitarist Blake Bledsoe, drummer Troy Hutchens, and mandolin player Dakota Yeck-Petty. They had met while playing in previous southern Illinois musical projects. Bledsoe and Hutchens had both played in the jamband Candlefish, while Yeck-Petty had played in the newgrass band Old Toby. When Candlefish and Old Toby parted ways in July of 2015 the three decided to come together and start a new project that would combine elements of both their previous genres.

They quickly brought forth the full lineup adding Elizabeth Hartman on the upright bass who Yeck-Petty had met when she filled in on bass for an Old Toby show. They also added Levi Jones on the keyboards. Jones and Yeck-Petty had met and became friends their freshman year at Southern Illinois University, and finally decided it was a good time to start making music together. Cecily Rhodes was the final piece to the Porch Fire puzzle. She busted out of her classically trained violin skills to learn bluegrass fiddle and quickly became an essential element of the Porch Fire jamgrass sound.

Porch Fire aims to smoothly combine serveral different styles of music to create their own unique sound. Although the band uses bluegrass instrumentation, they aim to mix bluegrass with jam music, reggae, rock, blues, jazz, americana, and psychedelic space sounds. For Porch Fire there is no box to contain what you will expect to hear, constantly keeping the audience on their toes.

The Porch Fire flames began to spread quickly throughout the Southern Illinois area. Drawing a crowd of over 200 people to their first show, the band soon knew that they had the potential to do exciting things in their local music scene. They have shared the stage in Carbondale with big names such as Cornmeal, The Woodbox Gang, and Old Shoe.

2016 looks to hold big opportunities for Porch Fire. The band is currently working on their first album which is still untitled. The album will feature 10 original songs that aim to combine a variety of genres. The band also hopes to begin to travel and bring their music to bars and music festivals throughout the Midwest.
